HARTERY, Bernice J., of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, Feb. 17, 2014. Beloved daughter of the late of the late Andrew T. and Eleanor J. (Turner) Hartery. Sister of the late Andrew T. and William J. Hartery and their wives. Aunt of Arleen Martino, William T. & Susan Hartery, Jane Sheedy, Thomas, Neil, Paul and Owen Hartery and their spouses. She was the grand and great aunt to many loving nieces and nephews. Bernice leaves her dear cousins and friends and most especially The Forster Family of Winthrop and their families. Visiting hour will be held at the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., WINTHROP, on Friday, Feb 21st from 4-8 PM. Bernice’s funeral will be held from the funeral home on Sat., Feb. 22 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Winthrop at 10 AM. Georgopoulos, Deamonto “Thelma” (Bakopoulos), 91, of Winthrop entered into rest on May 11, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Thelma was the beloved wife of the late Charles with whom she shared 45 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, she was the only daughter of the late Anthony and Georgia Bakopoulos. Thelma was predeceased by her brothers Louis and his wife Virginia of Peabody, Dennis of Lynn, and John and his wife Hope of Saugus. Dennis’s wife Stella resides in Andover. Thelma was also a sister-in-law to the late Priscilla and husband Charles Rozantes of Winthrop. Thelma leaves sister-in-law Pauline and husband Charles Chiochios who reside in California. Thelma was the devoted mother to Pauline Maravelias and her husband Peter of Wakefield, Peter Georgopoulos and his wife Susan of Maryland, and Anthony George and his wife Sylvia of Connecticut. She was the cherished grandmother of Andrew Sinclair, Charles Georgopoulos and his fiancée Nina Apostolou, Christopher Georgopoulos and his wife Angela, Paulette Georgopoulos, Steven George and his wife Erin, Peter George, Diana George and her fiancé David Walsh, and Jennifer George. Thelma had many nieces and nephews that she enjoyed and they share many happy memories of her. Thelma enjoyed her early years growing up in West Lynn. Shortly after high school graduation in 1940 with World War II about to start, Thelma started working at General Electric where, during the war, she made parts for submarines. She was a woman of her times. After the war when her boyfriend Charlie came home, they got engaged and married in 1946 like so many others. Soon she and Charlie had three children and it was the fifties. Thelma was a fifties stay-at-home mom which lay the basis for a wonderful foundation for her children’s happiness. Then the sixties came and all her children were at least in junior high school so Thelma went to work. She took a bus and a subway to Boston and joined the insurance business, working for Continental Insurance Company. She started at $ 55.00 a week and worked so diligently that she was soon promoted to supervisor where she stayed until she retired. After retirement, Thelma and Charlie (Yiayia and Papou) doted on their grandchildren to everyone’s mutual delight. Thelma was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn and the Ladies Philoptochos Society of St. George Greek Orthodox, a duly accredited philanthropic society of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Visiting Hours will be on Thursday, May 15 from 4-8p.m. at the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home at 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. CONLEY, Joseph E. “Pa” Age 93 of Winthrop formerly of Hyde Park, passed away on the palliative care unit of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on June 16, 2014. He was born on March 9, 1921 in Boston MA. He married the love of his life, who he met in elementary school, the late Helen Virginia (Catarius) Conley. Joseph was the son of the late Edward and Mary (McNally) Conley of Providence, RI. Joseph was the father of Judith Silverman and her late husband Robert Silverman of Valley Center California, Virginia Conley and her husband Edwin Holmes of Dedham and Joseph Conley Jr. of West Roxbury. Grandfather of Karen O’Leary of California, Richard Boyajian and his wife Pauline “Chickie” (McLaughlin) of Winthrop and Mark Boyajian and his wife, Alissa (Anagnos) of Walpole. Proud great-grandpa to Krystle and Shealagh Boyajian of Winthrop, Christina and Ryan Boyajian of Walpole. Joseph was one of twelve siblings; the late Mary, Edward “Sonny”, Elizabeth, Leo, William, David and Carol, already for his arrival in Heaven and Claire, Robert, Richard and John all sharing in his loss on Earth. Perhaps most of all he will be missed by his constant canine companions Buddy and Luna, who are lost without him. The funeral will be held from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home Inc. 210 Winthrop Street, Winthrop Friday, June 20, at 9am. A Funeral Mass will be at St. John the Evangelist at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Thurs. from 4-8pm. He was one of the Greatest Generation, serving first in the Massachusetts National Guard Battery “L” 241 1st Coastal Artillery and the 230th Searchlight Army from 1937-1940 in the defense of Boston Harbor. He then served as a US Army Staff Sergeant for Automotive Operations on Ulithi Atoll of the Carolina Island in the Pacific theater during WW II. He retired as a Captain of the Boston Fire Department’s Engine Company 28. He enjoyed his retirement with his family and coaching Mark and Richie’s youth sports teams.
